‘Lisabi: A Legend Is Born’ Becomes Highest-Grossing Nigerian Movie on Netflix as of June 2025

Netflix’s most-watched Nigerian title this year is the epic historical drama Lisabi: A Legend Is Born, which has officially become the highest-grossing Nigerian film on the platform as of June 2025.

Released on January 10, 2025, the film is directed by renowned filmmaker Niyi Akinmolayan and tells the powerful story of Lisabi Agbongbo-Akala, the legendary 18th-century Yoruba warrior and freedom fighter. Starring Lateef Adedimeji in a gripping lead performance, the film has earned critical acclaim for its rich cultural storytelling, compelling visuals, and dynamic portrayal of pre-colonial resistance in Yorubaland.

While Everybody Loves Jenifa still holds the record for the highest box office earnings in Nigerian cinemas—grossing a remarkable ₦1.88 billion in 2024—its performance on Netflix has not been as widely documented.

Other top-performing Nigerian films on Netflix include Jagun Jagun, a 2023 action epic that gained global attention, and Lisabi: The Uprising, the earlier installment that set the stage for this year’s blockbuster sequel.

For viewers looking to explore more Nigerian content, Netflix’s Top 10 Movies in Nigeria list and its Nollywood section offer a wide range of trending films and beloved classics from Africa’s largest film industry.
