Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has urged all eligible voters in the state to participate actively in the upcoming local government elections scheduled for Saturday, July 12.
In a statement released on Friday, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasised the critical role of the local government as the tier of government closest to the people, stressing its importance in delivering essential services and fostering grassroots development.
“The local government elections will take place tomorrow (July 12, 2025). I call on all eligible voters across the state to come out in large numbers to participate in the exercise,” the Governor stated.
He highlighted that the election provides Lagosians with a vital opportunity to influence the leadership of their local councils by electing Chairmen and Councillors who will represent their interests and drive community-level development.

To guarantee a secure, orderly, and credible election, the Governor confirmed that he has directed the strategic deployment of security agencies across all polling units and communities. “Law enforcement officials will be present to protect voters, electoral officials, and election materials,” he assured.
Sanwo-Olu noted the assurance provided by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) regarding their readiness for the polls.
He further appealed to all political stakeholders, party agents, and candidates to maintain decorum and uphold the principles of peace, fairness, and respect for the rule of law throughout the exercise.
The Governor specifically called on the youth to “shun any form of violence and instead act as ambassadors of peace and democratic responsibility.”
Concluding his appeal, Governor Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to “free, fair, and transparent elections that reflect the will of our people,” urging Lagosians to demonstrate their dedication to peace, progress, and participatory governance.
